Saturday 29 January, 2011 – My friend Paul Cherico brought around this very tatty Moto Guzzi V65 off-road bike. He received it in exchange for doing some welding for an acquaintance. Paul has left it here on some sort of long term loan to me, which is very nice of him. (I do seem to have some allure to transverse V twins!)

It is a bit of a mess, partly dismantled, and has been lying out in the weather for some while – although it was under cover in a shed when Paul sighted it. The exhaust and the starter-motor are missing, along with a few other odds & ends. It will no doubt be a challenge to restore, but would be well worth the trouble, considering the overall quality of the marque.

Workshop manuals have been located through Abebooks, but I fear that parts may be a problem.

Pieces of trivia:

I had never known that Moto Guzzi made an off-road bike. I would have thought that it would have had too high a centre of gravity to be really satisfactory. No doubt it had plenty of power and the shaft drive would have been a good feature.
